“Chantel Barber's work is recognizable. She is painting with her own identity. She has found a beautiful way to express herself with her own freedom. There is a lot of movement and stability in her work, the suggestion replaces the enumeration. We can feel the layers, the transparency between the brush strokes. It reveals enough information to situate the subject but also leaves us the possibility of continuing the story. That's her strength. An energy emerges from each brushes strokes, with a particular color palette that belongs to her. There is intensity and tenderness in Chantel Barber's paintings. Her portraits are very evocative, and shows us the real affection she has for her subjects.”
